About us…
Hello. My name is Robin Gribbin and I am the founder and owner of YOU salon, Inc. I have been in the beauty industry since 1974 and I was a national artist for REDKEN 5th Avenue, NYC for 21 of those years from 1984 to 2005. During my traveling with Redken I had many opportunities to work with other artists from all over the world. I have gathered and learned so much from my experiences about hair design, hair coloring and business from some extremely talented and knowledgeable people that in 2003 I decided, for the second time in my career, to open own salon. Yes, it was the second time I did this. Let me tell you more…
I started out as a stylist at a salon in Arbutus, Maryland where I was given a great foundation to the importance of education in our industry and got my first taste of REDKEN and their commitment to educating hairstylists on their craft. I worked there for 7 years as a stylist and decided it was time to set out on my own so I opened my first salon, with a partner, in 1984, called Creative Cutting.
Now, I wouldn’t say it was a disaster because I learned a lot about the ups and downs of being a business owner and what I did and didn’t want from it. What I definitely didn’t want was to be in a partnership. Two people with completely different ideas of what they thought a salon should be just didn’t work. So after 5 years in this partnership, I decided to “split the sheets” and went to work for a company in Columbia, Maryland. I quickly moved into an Artistic Director position where I was able to use my skills I had been learning with Redken to grow the company and the people. I decided during this process that I was extremely good at “growing people”. I loved it and during my tenure with this salon I was able to hone my skills as an educator coach and mentor.
Around 1998, my son Jason Gribbin, came to me and said he wanted to go into the business of hair. I took him traveling with me while he was in beauty school so that I would have my influence and technical expertise as part of his training. After he successfully completed his schooling he joined me at the salon I was currently and we continued there until 2003, when with his help I opened YOU salon, Inc. Since 2005, Jason has taken over the training program as Artistic Director and between the 2 of us we have successfully trained a staff of 7 designers and we are still growing. We currently have fifteen employees; a Director of Operations, one sales and service coordinator, seven designers, one manicurist and three associates-in-training and two assistants. Every staff member has been trained by us through our training program to ensure the highest quality service from beginning to end.
